Agronomy
European sugar beet is cultivated on over
2,000,000 hectares by more than 335,000 beet-growers. This area
represents some 3% of the European Union's arable land. European
cane sugar is grown on over 40,000 hectares by Spain and the French
Overseas Departments. Raw sugar imports correspond to 1,700,000
tonnes produced by the ACP countries.
